For Available Dogs

Go to the Ariel Rescue Page

Ariel Rescue is located in South Orange County and our preference is to adopt to families in the same vicinity (some dogs do get returned). We show our dogs at the Aliso Viejo PETsMART located on Aliso Creek Road (just off the 73 fwy near the Edwards Theaters) on Saturdays in the early afternoons. Please call Ariel Rescue at 949-499-9380 in advance to know which dogs we will be showing and the time

Plenty of Diamonds in the "Ruff" at the Shelter

Looking for a specific breed (Boxer)?

Looking for a small dog (e.g. Lhaso)?

Looking for a young purebred dog (e.g Golden Retriever)?

Looking for a puppy?

Your best bet is a municipal shelter. Believe it or not, the best gems are found at the shelters in some of the poorest neighborhoods. Make the drive and save a life. You can view many of the dogs online before and call to see if they are still available.

Ariel Rescue shows dogs at PETsMART in Aliso Viejo on Saturday afternoons. Many times, people comment that they have just gone to their local community humane (low kill rate) shelter, couldn't find what they are looking for and end up going to breeders or pet stores. Most people don't know that the dog of their dreams is just a short drive away. Thus, rather than feature our dog of the week, Ariel Rescue has decided to use this space to advertise some of the municipal shelters in LA/Orange County where you are likely to find a good selection.

PLEASE EMAIL US AT arielrescue@hotmail.com if you go to one of these shelters and adopt an animal. We want to know if this section is helping to save any of the animal's lives and would so appreciate hearing from you. We read every email.

Listed below are municipal shelters where animals have only a short period of time to live. Their lives are depending on you. Ok, so they aren't pleasant places to go.

"I can't go there, it is too hard. I will want to take everyone home."

Guess what, that is what most people think and so no one goes and the animals die and the breeders flourish! Please, if you really care about animals, take a friend and go to a municipal shelter in an area outside of your local community. The animal you save doesn't have a chance if you don't go.

Abbrevied Shelter List

Unfortunately, there are far too many municipal animal shelters to list here. As we are located in South Orange County California, our list includes those shelters that someone who resided in Orange County could easily get to within an hour. For a complete listing of municipal shelters in Southern California, lists of and photos of dogs in critical need, please go to www.animalmatch.net

Prices range from about $27-$100 and most include a free visit to the veterinarian. Please take your newly adopted pet to the vet right away as more than likely he may have minor ailments such as worms or parasites which if left untreated will spread to other animals.

These shelters all have high euthanasia rates ranging from 50%-85% (meaning this is the percentage that are killled upon coming into the shelter). Please go and save a life.

You can view dogs and cats on the LA County Animal Control website. Search for LA County Animal Control which will take you to the home page. Select the shelter you are interested in. Be sure to look at both available for adoption and the Lost and Found Section. Most dogs will be in the Lost and Found Section during the five day holding period in which an owner has to claim them. It is at this point, that many of the dogs are put to sleep. If you see a dog you definitely want, write down the impound number and go down to the shelter immediately. You can call the shelter as well, but this will definitely not guarantee that the dog will be saved. You must physically go down to the shelter and adopt the dog.
